Best Movies of 2004
January 26, 2005
Before I saw Hotel Rwanda, I would have said
that Eternal
Sunshine of the Spotless Mind was far and away the best
movie of the year. I still think it is, but Hotel Rwanda comes a lot closer
than any other movie this year. Those two movies would be
outstanding in any year, but in this one, they really shine. I
had trouble thinking of a movie besides Eternal Sunshine that impressed me
during the year; reviewing the list
of movies released during the year (so far, I've seen 35 of the 267
movies eligible for the Oscars, which I think is an all-time low for
me) jogged my memory, but I still can't put together a top-ten
list. These are the only movies I really find worthy of mention
(no, no Fahrenheit
9/11):
Eternal
Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
Hotel Rwanda
The Aviator
Closer
The
Twilight Samurai
Hero
Kill Bill,
Vol. 2
Super Size
Me
Shaun
of the
Dead
